This exciting project is giving Fish Creek and all tiers of the surrounding area a site where environmental and problem soft weeds like Agapanthus, Wandering Jew and Cape weed can be safely composted by pasteurisation in a vermin proof vessel . By purchasing the solar powered Australian made Oscar 1 and setting up the ancillary needs, we will be converting problem weeds into high quality compost . The Oscar 1 can accept 500 litres of raw material daily, and will be managed by trained community farm members . Suitable collection facilities, will be available. https://www.facebook.com/buckleyparkcommunityfarm
This project will strengthen community connections and highlight, engage and further educate the public on the need and potential to sustainably deal with soft environmental weeds .
High quality compost produced will be used on site at the existing Buckley Park Community Farm .
Benefits for the local community include increased production of fresh healthy produce available to the community from the farm ; financial savings on tip fees ; reducing methane and weed contamination in our shire; civic pride in our innovative environmental solution.
This ongoing project will provide a working model to fight the 'War on Waste '.
