Organic farming is one of the highest growth areas within agriculture but organic farmers face many challenges that are unique to them as their farming methods are quite different and there's less information available to help them with their management decisions. This project will provide a support network for organic farmers to meet together on a regular basis on other organic farms to learn from each other and support each other. We will run 9 on-farm discussion groups focusing specifically on Organic Farming methods, and all interested farmers will be welcome to participate in the support network we will establish.

There is a large number of organic farmers in Gippsland. They mainly grow vegetables, fruit, nuts, beef, pigs, lambs, milk and cheese. Demand for organic produce is stronger than supply and organic farmers have asked for opportunities to learn from each other and support each other so they expand and continue to provide healthy produce for the community. The Western Port Catchment Landcare Network has existing strong links with local organic farmers and we will also partner with the Baw Baw Food Movement to facilitate the support network and discussion group for organic farmers.

Great initiative. I want healthy food and healthy people, this provides both.

Anything that can support, educate and promote organic farming gets my vote. I want my family to eat healthy produce that is local.
