This project will promote local social inclusion and cohesion by serving free weekly feasts in a safe and welcoming environment where attendees are able to sit and meet others in their community, talk and share their stories, and build relationships.

The project will provide free lunches made from surplus food rescued from local businesses and food rescue organisations. All are welcome to attend, especially those who may be experiencing disadvantage. We will target communities in Glenroy and Fawkner. Open Table is unique in its approach to community development, as our patrons are diverse in culture and age.

Open Table aims to establish a consistent presence through establishing a free weekly lunch in these neighbourhoods to build a genuine sense of community and help alleviate financial stress. Through a shared meal, we aim to break down barriers within the neighbourhood by offering a comfortable environment for people to come together to talk about shared experiences of place, food and culture. We hope to create stronger understanding and appreciation for our diverse society, and also provide the opportunity to strengthen social skills for everyone wishing to participate more fully in our community.

This is a wonderful project which may be lost without further funding.
