Imagine our city’s urban food scene - community gardens, productive backyards, restaurants using local produce, urban breweries/food producers - opened for the public to explore. We want to celebrate Melbourne’s local food, from the dirt up, and that means inviting the community in to see what happens behind the scenes. Through a series of “open door” and workshop events, we will invite people into different urban food initiatives around broader Melbourne. From learning beekeeping in a community garden to preserves/jams in a commercial kitchen to growing food in an urban farmer’s backyard - this project will have it all!

This project looks to the success of Open House Melbourne and the incredible groundswell around urban agriculture as inspiration to launch a new series of events for broader Melbourne. So many people are interested in growing their own food, or in local food, but don’t know what’s possible or where to start. By opening up a range of local food spaces, we provide inspiration, encourage sustainability and celebrate community initiatives.

Through partnership with Open Gardens Victoria and 3000acres’ friends in the urban agriculture movement, we have a huge range of environments ready to be opened to the public.
