Our Open Farm Day aims to have a really fun day to showcase farming on the urban-rural fringe of Melbourne to inner city residents and the wider community. Visitors will have access to a range of different farms each with a unique offering. Each visitor will be able to plan their route to farms that encompass their ideal day out. Each Farm will have parking available and activities planned to entertain and educate their own special visitors, whether it be feeding the alpacas or picking apples or climbing on a tractor, riding a pony or cuddling a lamb.
Our area has seen recent and rapid urban growth. Open farm day aims to increase visitation and tourism to our rural region with a flow on benefit to local businesses. Open farms aims to raise awareness of the farming practices in the region, demonstrate the stages of food and produce production, increase support for regional producers, artisans and businesses, and to encourage growth in farm gate offerings and direct produce marketing while educating and entertaining the broader community on the ups and downs of farm life. Open farms is a perfect platform upon which to bring our communities together.

This is a great opportunity for the folk from urban townships and suburbs to be made welcome and to share in the experience of getting into open spaces and up close to animals, to appreciating the seasons, to understanding the importance of food production, to being in the shoes of the farmer for a day.
