The Dimboola Hotel was decimated by fire in October 2003. A long standing legal issue to resolve what should happen to the remaining facade deepened the grief of the community. It was demolished, "they" had won and now there's nothing left (refer to inset picture). The aim of this project is to connect locals to the fabric of our community outside of their own four walls, all the while fostering a very vibrant tourist community. This creates a sustainable space where locals can be proud of, tourist can admire and creative people can display their talents.

The inherent human need for connection, whether professional or social, fuels the dynamic we see as the future focus of this community project. Positioned in the heart of our town this project holds immense social and economical value. It's position is a visual promotion for our town for tourists and people wishing to live here. It stands to be the foundations for the reuniting and rejuvenation of our community. We the community need to embrace this space and allow it to engage different demographics, ages, genders, cultures and beliefs to a place of connection and understanding.

Great idea for a derelict site. Looking forward to a newly developed area, that will accomodate community based projects, while enhancing the already natural beauty of our picturesque town.

The idea that Dimboola could have a gathering space for social connection both for the local community and tourists excites me. Being a local, I know how important this project would be to our community. I would love to also see it as a regular local market place, to showcase our superb produce, art and crafts. Let’s get this done!!

It goes without saying that this space needs to be utilized with a view to beautifying the town, involving the locals and encouraging visitors to Dimboola. I like the idea of a regular market area, plus a park where people can relax. What about a community garden?

Part of my heart is ripped out every time I drive past this once iconic representation of Dimboola, now just an empty space. . This project will not only reclaim and beautify a significant area in the town, it will also uplift the spirit within the community. Great suggestion Stoph.

This would be a perfect solution to what has been an eyesore in the middle of town for years.

Being an avid traveller as well as a Dimboola resident I am saddened by the old hotel site from an aesthetic and community wellbeing view. I implore all to get behind the small group of passionate locals in an effort to bring life back to the precinct.

This project is so worthwhile. I worked at the Dimboola Hotel 30 years ago and it was such a sad day when it burnt down - even more devastating when the site has been left as rubble for all these years since it burnt down. What an amazing way to bring life back into the community and make this space a place that the community can be proud of and attract tourism into the beautiful little town that is by passed by the highway. A project so worthwhile for the whole community.

Our great little town Dimboola has a horrible scar left in it's main street, a great tragedy of the iconic Dimboola Hotel that once stood in the prime location of the main street which was the face of the town, It was destroyed by fire and left a gapping unsightly and sorry looking hole in the main street, this project would heal this wound bring a positive vibe and create a place of peace and connection for all the community, tourist and visitors to enjoy. 15 years time to heal, great project.

We as a community need to support and engage with this project. Its it vital for the town to turn the negatives into positives and make this a sustainable and viable asset for our town. We have the passion and the heart we just need everyone to take ownership and drive this project to reality!

The emptiness of this space is a sad reminder of a terrible fire. This then has created a feeling of ‘no one cares’ about us! But a grant could encourage people to see someone is looking out for us. Good things do happen if we can be given a hand.

At the moment the bare area in the centre of town is so depressing ,it needs major works to be done to bring our town ‘s Main Street back to life .A area for people to come gather to enjoy the environment of this great little town .The area needs to provide sitting , sheltered areas from both the sun ,wind and rain ,.

Dimboola needs to have this space filled with something practical and useful for the locals and the many visitors to the town, A great gathering place to help the community stay together and remain strong.

To have this space filled would be a perfect Hub for local talent to share Art, Cultural projects, workshops to bring the community together in a relaxing environment in a central place.

The site of the old pub that burnt down years ago holds a landmark position in the centre of town and has depressingly laid derelict and now bare for far too long. It would be fitting to give the people of Dimboola and those who visit, a place to congregate and one of which they can be proud. The redevelopment of this site, in this proud community, would play an important role in supporting the already tremendous efforts they are making to turn the town’s fortunes around and to attract visitors throughout the year. Other examples of the community’s efforts are; the annual fishing comp and rowing regatta, the Dimboola food and wine festival held a could of years ago, Mason Clark Coffee Roastery & Preserving Kitchen, and the re-booted Victoria Hotel. This is a small farming community battling the population and economic decline experienced by so many small regional communities. This project would give the community a place to meet, to welcome visitors and something of which to be proud. The people of Dimboola are a community who help themselves and are not afraid to innovate. This project receiving funding would represent a huge morale and civic boost to the efforts they are making to put Dimboola back on the map. Thumbs up from me!
