My project will involve establishing an Op Shop for the whole community that provides support, resources and training and employment pathways for women experiencing homelessness and family violence.

The space will enable women who are feeling unsafe to source valuable information in a comfortable, discrete and non threatening environment. As a public space anyone entering for advice and referral can blend in and no one will know if they’re there to shop or for help. Women will be supported and employed if needed, to become financially independent and move into their own rental accommodation, and out of crisis accommodation.

The Op Shop will provide affordable clothing for the whole community, with all items in store being sold for $5. Support will also be available for women who are experiencing homelessness or family violence through information, support and referral to assist them to regain financial independence. These women are the most vulnerable in society and a lack of financial security is one of the main barriers women face when trying to leave a violent situation. We will also provide vouchers to local community groups who support women experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, to the value of $50-100.

Great project. I have extensive experience with women at a number of hospitals (ex nurse) and qualifications in nursing, psychology, and administration and would like to assist in this project
