Jane Beetham, a Health Initiative Consultant with over 40 years of nursing experience has created the first of a series of educational talks about Alcohol Use Disorder. Using her own personal experience, professional knowledge and a big dose humour to deliver the facts, she can enhance the cessation and/or reduction of alcohol use among audience members. The talks are initially aimed towards women and the over 45s demographic. The aim is to reduce judgement, provide mutual social acceptance of, and provide methods that will benefit all to reduce alcohol use. Figures from the Hepburn Shire Council show there is a problem with health and substance abuse in our community; with an increase of these problems in women and older populations. Education and solutions should reduce the costs of extra health care and provide more support. As the Shire posts itself as an area for benefiting health and lifestyle; there is a need for a more down to earth approach that is cost effective.
