This is a great idea not only practical for the sports clubs and casual visitors including cyclists, walkers and horse enthusiasts. Please think about having potable water available and a caravan dump point for free or low fee camping. There is plenty of room and from experience such reserves are a draw card and campers do buy locally.

The current toilet facilities at the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve consist of two toilet blocks - Male (1 cubicle, 1 urinal), Female (2 cubicles). They do not comply with accessibility requirements; are often out of order due to blockages from tree roots and silt build up; appear dirty even when freshly cleaned (water from the river is used for flushing); do not comply with CPTED principles, and people avoid using them due to their condition.
New toilet facilities would provide accessibility for all users and a clean, safe, fully functioning system.
Stage 1: new toilet block, Stage 2: sports change rooms
The Koonwarra Recreation Reserve has two main user groups: the Koonwarra / Leongatha RSL Cricket Club with 100 playing and social members and the Koonwarra Tennis Club with 13 members.
With recently re-developed cricket nets, and drainage works carried out on the oval, a number of women's cricket teams also train at the reserve, including: 'Gippsland Pride', 'Leongatha & District Cricket Association' & 'Cricket Without Borders'
Casual users include: walkers/joggers/runners, Rail Trail users/Koonwarra Park Run participants, football teams/casual tennis players, horse riders, scouts/school groups, bird watchers/nature lovers/picnicers, families of all ages - all appreciating new toilet facilities

A beautiful area and in need of functioning toilets. Many sporting groups use the rec reserve and this would only improve the area for all.

For such a beautiful reserve and surrounds,the toilet block is far from
Adequate. With better facilities the reserve would attract much more interest,
And anyone that is passionate enough about the project to go along to the koonwarra market dressed as a fairy complete with pink wand/ toilet brush

Our community asset is in dire need of an upgrade and I fully support the addition of new toilets. The facility is used by diverse streams of people and a modern facility would be much appreciated by them, in addition to bringing the recreation ground into the modern age!

New toilets would be a great community asset for not only the Recreation Ground but the RailTrail as well. With the large trees, picnic tables it can also be a nice resting place. This is a well used community asset.

Have been using these facilities with my daughter playing cricket with Koonwarra and Gippsland Pride for the last couple of years.
Would be a wonderful asset to the area if the upgrade was successful. The toilets are very dated and unwelcoming. A changeroom area would be appreciated and untilised if added to the toilets. There is obvious tree root issues surrounding the toilet block area.

I hope signage from the rail trail will be included in the project.

Signage at the entrance to the reserve and on the rail trail pointing to the reserve are high on the list of priorities for the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve Committee of Management.
Signage on the rail trail is intended to highlight the many features of the reserve to users of the rail trail that may not be aware the reserve is even there!!
