The lighting over the greens at Blackburn Bowls Club is over 40 years old and in need of replacement. It is currently very energy intensive and severely lacking in adequate brightness. Many club members cannot play at night because the lighting is not bright enough.
The local community is using the greens extensively during summer evenings. Our long running Wednesday night 'Night Owls' is a fun and relaxed competition for the local community. Our newer Friday night 'Twilight Bowls' provides BBQ dinner, drinks and bowls for local families and is proving extremely popular. Both nights are a 'full-house' on the greens. New improved lighting will be a huge boon for both nights, as well as for our Tuesday night pennant.

Great club, very welcoming and provides a great place for people in the community to socialise, contributing greatly to the wellness of all. Clubs like this are very important for both mental and physical health, and lawn bowls appeals to all ages and abilities.
Many local residents cannot currently participate in such a fun and healthy pastime because they struggle to see the other end of the bowling green due to the poor lighting
Blackburn Bowls Club is a leading organization in the local community. It provides a tremendous sporting facility for people of all ages and it reaches out in the evenings, to this community, providing a range of social bowling opportunities. Twilight Bowls and “Night Owls” are 2 examples of this. Unfortunately, the old lighting system is insufficient and impacts on the success of the Bowling enjoyment. I commend this project.
Barefoot bowls is becoming a popular activity enjoyed by all age groups, including those who suffering physical and/or mental disabilities. Having the lights will enable more games to be played by more people within the community.
Bring it on!!!
A vibrant community and social hub and a worthwhile project.
I strongly agree with the comments regarding lighting at the Blackburn Bowls Club. They are very inadequate and outdated.
nice one coffeedog ;-)

Isn't this something the local Whitehorse Council should be paying for??
