Creswick Soccer Club's junior soccer pitch at the Doug Lindsay Reserve is in need of an upgrade. The current fencing around the junior pitch is outdated and serves little purpose as it does not stop soccer balls. The installation of a new barrier fence behind one of the goals plus 1m high black mesh fencing around the remainder of the ground would assist preventing soccer balls disappearing into car parking areas and scrub land. The pitch is exclusively used by junior teams meaning that the direct beneficiaries of this grant would be local children aged between 6 and 16.
The fencing upgrade would have numerous positive community benefits. Whilst it would significantly improve organised training sessions and matches by keeping soccer balls in the arena, it also has broader community benefit as the pitch is available to all community members for informal use.
The project also has an important safety benefit by reducing the need for junior players to retrieve soccer balls from designated car parking areas and local scrub land, and by potentially keeping unwanted animals out of the pitch arena. This project direct addresses community need through the upgrade of local sporting and recreational facilities.
