A trail connecting Ballarat and Mt Clear’s best lookouts via a multi use nature trail through Ballarat’s nearest forest. The trail will promote cycling, walking, running, and nature immersion while supporting the physical wellbeing and positive mental health outcomes for 30000 plus residents who live adjacent to the recently established Woowookarung Regional Park. Beginning at the ‘Ballarat Lookout’ the trail will follow the natural hills and valleys through heathy forest, grasstrees and wildflowers in season as well as historic water races, mines, prospecting sites and geological wonders.

The proposed trail is identified in the draft Woowookarung Regional Park management plan as a major feature, and loosely termed the ’10 000 Step trail’ which already looks to house the new "dementia nature forest sensory trail" currently in initial planning stages.
The community already accesses the area via unformed haphazard connections, boggy in winter, unsafe or too narrow in other sections and subject to widespread erosion and phytophthora infection.
The proposed natural trail with appropriate creek and road crossings will assist more local residents and visitors to use Woowookarung’s trails and enjoy a high quality natural forest experience.

What a wonderful long term community asset on the eastern skyline of Ballarat. A trail will enable better access, interpretation and appreciation. Places gain significance by the quality of the experiences for the people. This project will add to the self esteem of Ballarat people and visitors.

As an active member of both BBOC and VNPA I can't wait for this project to be successful so I can plan to include this trail in the walks I lead in Woowookarung Regional Park.

In Ballarat we are so lucky to have lots of lovely walks very close to its centre. This walk in Woowookarung makes us even luckier!

A vital part of Ballarat and Victoria’s environment.
This park needs to be restored to its natural beauty to return the native flora and fauna we have lost.
This will be an extremely valuable asset and draw thousands of tourists to explore its wonders.

As a resident of this area, we are so pleased to see effort being put back into protecting and enhancing flora and fauna in this park. It is wonderful to see a natural asset being invested in for both people and the environment.

We love the enthusiasm and activism of this large group of nature lovers who want to give of their time and skills to protect, enhance, re-invigor, heal and care for this hidden Ballarat treasure, Woowookarung Regional Park. A truly imaginative and exciting project to benefit all ages, sizes and capacities.

This is a very significant project that serves the interests of the broad Ballarat community - old, young, active, less able-bodied, educated, unskilled ... It is a place to learn, exercise, connect to others and the environment and relax. We are at a critical time in our local and broader community in demonstrating the inextricable link between human and environmental well-being.

This is a great park - important for the environment and health, recreation, community cohesion etc. It will become even better for walking etc as it ages. It's been great fun planting trees here, over. the past year. Most have done so well - it gives one a great sense of achievement, as well as providing a good opportunity to meet people with similar interests. (The Sausage Sizzles also help!)

This trail will enable 1000s of Ballarat people (young and old) to exercise and enjoy nature close to home. It will be the first properly marked and safe trail through the bush of Woowookarung Regional Park. within the city boundaries.
