The Diamond Creek Junior Football Club in partnership with the Nillumbik Shire Council is seeking netting behind goals at the Creek end of Coventry Oval.
The estimated costs of the project are $29,424 for drawings, materials, installation and project management by the Nillumbik Council. Estimated size of netting is 8.3m (height) x 22 metres (width). Final exact size to be confirmed. The Nillumbik Council will managing this project. Coventry Oval is used/accessed by both the Diamond Creek Junior and Senior Football Clubs, Diamond Creek Cricket Club and local members of the community.
Benefits to the community include: reduced risk of injury, snake bites and drowning to junior players, spectators and passers by from retrieving balls from bushland and creek - two near-drownings occurred in the past 12 months; greatly reducing the risk of footballs hitting people, especially children who are viewing the game or walking past the oval at the time of junior games; reduced risk of damage to motor vehicles travelling behind the goals on the dirt road, which surrounds the oval; and reduced costs to the junior club in replacement of balls.

Upgrading of Coventry Oval is nessesary for the safety of the community.
Sport is extremely important to the community of Diamond Creek
and requires continuous upgrades and/or additions to the sports grounds.
This will be a good investment into a very well used community resource.
This would be fantastic for the football oval & Club... Would benefit greatly. Saving lost time during games trying to locate the balls that go over the back.
Diamond Creek football Oval is a well looked after, true country football oval that we love.
Well overdue. Many many lost balls costing precious money but more importantly causing litter to our beautiful area and landing in the river system.
If you’re having a kick on your own or with a mate, you have to jump the fence to retrieve your ball, ever time you kick it over. Having nets would make our ground a better place to enjoy.
Footballs continually entering the creek is a major environmental issue. These nets will stop this.
Desperately needed to save wet and lost balls
Not only is this community netting behind the goals at the Coventry Oval required for safety reasons but also for the purposes of saving the Diamond Creek Football Senior and Junior clubs 100's of dollars in replacement footballs that happens every year with football being lost in or down the creek at the city side of the oval.
Great initiative that is well over due.
