The Nar Nar Goon community installed 19 murals and a self-guided booklet in 2002 depicting scenes from the 1920s. Nar Nar Goon is now known as the Mural Town. 16 years later the murals are showing severe signs of degradation and require major restoration.
The murals are open access and free for everyone to enjoy including tourists, local community, schools and kindergarten. It shows life in Nar Nar Goon in the 1920s.
Future aspirations for the town is to hold a Mural Festival where local artists can contribute to future new murals in the town.
The murals benefit the local schools and kindergarten who participate in excursions with in the town. The schools and kindergarten are currently in partnership with indigenous groups to expand their learning and teach the children of the Bunnerong tribe that inhabited the region before settlement. They are currently collaborating to produce 3 new mural scenes. Local business will benefit from the many tourists who pass through the area. Finally the community benefits as they are involved in protecting, preserving and in the future creating new mural art.

The Nar Nar Goon murals are iconic and should be restored so everyone can continue to enjoy them.
I love murals. They add interest to plane brick walls, make people stop, look and comment.
This is something that should happen as murals are now becoming a thing of the past and it’ll be good to keep them around for the younger generations to look at!
There has been a lot made of the "Painted Silos" drawing tourists to towns, these Murals predate that idea and deserve to be preserved and refreshed. Our family has a long history and association with the town and it would be a shame to see these artworks fade into oblivion. They are part of and reflect the heritage of the area.
The murals are beautiful and keeping them enables the generations to come to experience the chacter they bring. Keep the old and restore it so that it will still be enjoyed for years to come.
The murals are an attraction to the town. Now that Nar Nar Goon is one of the few towns to make the new Vegemite advertisement, it would be a shame for them to fall into disrepair. I’m old enough to remember Joff Allen from early TV and he always spoke of Nar Nar Goon, so there has been a long standing reference to the area in Victorian history, so everything should be done to preserve the area. Thankyou
The Murals are a great asset for our town and they really need to be repainted as they have become very faded. I would love to see them fixed up Cheers Cheryl

We have loved the murals since we first moved to Nar Nar Goon. They are unique and create a great talking point. My children love looking at them. It would be awesome to have them restored.
