Nagorang (to meet) is a Taungurung organised cultural event to take place during a weekend at Camp Jungai and at the Cathedral Range State Park, with the participation of several Traditional Owner groups from Victoria, and open to the wider public. This event will reenact the gathering that occurred 158 years ago where Traditional Owner groups from Victoria travelled far and wide for the occassion. As it happened 158 years ago, the gathering will include a game of football and a night corroboree. Stalls, exhibitions and cultural awareness/education sessions will also take place throughout the weekend.

This is a significant cultural festival that will bring together Traditional Owners from across Victoria. The wider community will have the opportunity to participate in a unique historical event that is not only enjoyable but provides a rich educational experience. The event gives a chance for Aboriginal groups in Victoria to share their untold stories; enrich communities with historical and cultural knowledge and provide a means for 'closing the gap'.

Anything that helps me a Non First Person learn and understand the history and cultural significance of the Taungurang people in this area I think is well overdue.

Recognition and appreciation of our indigenous Australian past and present has come a long way since 1988 but has a long way to go. NAIDOC week this year exploded with creative events for helping promote a better understanding. I feel this project is a stunning idea that will provide a wonderful way for local indigenous groups & families to bring their traditional culture alive in our district. As a non-indigenous person I welcome the opportunity to meet, to enjoy, and to learn from our local indigenous people. Their rich knowledge of how this region was lived in, in the pre-colonial era, would be wonderful to extend beyond the little we know currently. I would welcome a festival that I could take my grandkids and daughter to, and that might become annual event on the Murrindindi calendar like in the Northern Territory. Why not!
