Murtoa essential visitor accommodation to boost tourism & local economy

This project was driven by the need for additional short-term visitor accommodation in Murtoa. It will provide accommodation accessible to everyone with views of Lake Marma in central Murtoa that will encourage visitors to the town. This project will support the local economy through encouraging visitors to visit and stay in the area and promote tourism to this beautiful lake town and enjoy everything Murtoa has to offer including excellent recreation facilities, accessible recreational lake, the national heritage listed Stick Shed, Murtoa Museum precinct, café, great meals at the pub, handy items from the supermarket, hardware store and gift shop.

This project is supported by the Murtoa community. The need for visitor accommodation is frequently raised as the main aim for the community moving forward, as highlighted in the Murtoa Community Action Plan. A Working Group of members from the community, Lake Marma Committee of Management and Murtoa Progress Association was established with the aim to develop suitable accommodation at Lake Marma. The working group identified suitable and accessible visitor accommodation options, required specifications, determined a realistic budget and received letters of support from DELWP, Scouts Victoria (dilapidated building currently on site), Yarriambiack Shire Council.
