Moving Safely Gippsland builds Orientation and Mobility (OM) skills among children, adults and seniors with low vision impairment. Community, health and education professionals will be encouraged to learn the tips and techniques of OM skill development. Professionals will then pass on the OM wisdom to their own networks. OM skills are not readily available in the Gippsland community. Melbourne training is not readily available here in Gippsland. This project provides 8 x 2 day workshops using Melbourne specialist trainers to health, education and community professionals. It is a pilot project in community engagement.

By building community capability in Orientation and Mobility skills for those with low or no vision. Teaching the teachers and coaches who work with low vision people is the idea in a nutshell. Empowerment for low vision communities provides support for now and into the future. Low vision or no vision accidents can happen at any time to any person. Moving Safely Gippsland provides direct links to Vision Australia staff in Gippsland. 8 training skills workshops will spread across the project's 12 month plan. Safety skills and equipment training will be included to show depth in mobilityskills.
