Mornington Railway Museum, Library and Interpretation Centre

Mornington Railway is the custodian of many artifacts, memorabilia and railway equipment relating to Victorian Railways. There are some locally significant pieces that ultimately need to be conserved, preserved and displayed for the wider community.

The railway does not currently have a dedicated space that can be used to safely store, handle and display materials to it guests. Having some new buildings will provide this desperately needed space.

Whilst some of the new space will be used for the safe storage, preservation, conservation and cataloguing of what the railway has, an interpretation and display space will be incorporated for guests.

A Museum, Library and Interpretation Centre will enable the railway to make its collection(s) available to the wider community. The facility will not only be open during scheduled running days, but also during workshop hours and by special request.

The ability for educational establishments, local groups and the public at large to use the facility for research about Victorian railways history, equipment and its technologies is a key objective.

An interpretation space will be used for displays and stories about the role the Mornington branch railway line played in local development and of the Mornington Peninsula as a whole.
