We will address social and economic exclusion of different groups across Moreland’s north and Hume - areas among the most disadvantaged in Melbourne - Band 1’ suburbs in the General Deprivation Index. We will employ two workers to co-ordinate activities and agency, community and employer involvement in the project.

Activities will include:

- Work skills training: forklift, traffic control, white card, RSA, first aid, OH&S.

- Employment mentoring, work-placements, job search training, individual job seeker
support.

- Initiating employers’ network; employment expo.

- Leadership training: advocacy, resilience.

- Civics education: community group participation.

- Community dinners, interfaith events, excursions, camps.

From previous similar work undertaken by Fawkner Community House we expect the project outcomes to be centred around: a stronger sense of community belonging among marginalized groups; improved employment participation; stronger local leadership; increased civic engagement and a stronger sense of common purpose across the local community and across diverse cultural groups.

We expect to have approximately 2,000 participants in our social inclusion activities, as volunteers and attendees. We also expect to have about 300 job seeker participants across the range of employment support activities. Of these we expect approximately 85 per cent to find employment from their project involvement.
