The project involves the development of training and information resources to create awareness and improved understanding of the links between gender inequality and violence against women (and their children) in the local community. The project's mission would be to promote a suite of support products relating to respectful relationships and gender equality strategies, using two local sporting clubs, Coburg Football Club (VFL) and the West Coburg Football Club (EDFL) as champions of change. Our educational strategy involves engagement with schools, businesses, unions, Community Health, sporting clubs, Council, Vic Pol, residents, cultural and ethnic communities.

The key component of the project will involve the provision of training and educational resources that is localised focussing on the Brunswick / Coburg communities. The resources will be made available to all groups mentioned above and have the capacity for these groups to interact when needed. The resources will be wide ranging and will have the capacity for multi-lingual users.

A key component of the project is the realism that will be created within the products through the involvement, expertise and public profile of prominent anti-violence campaigner and state government Victim Survivors’ Advisory Council member Phil Cleary.

The Coburg Football Club is delighted to support such a wonderful project which will see greater education and awareness pieces put together and rolled out to men and boys about this social issue.

I think information and education is the key.

Education on the consequences of action and where help can be obtained are vital!
