The project involves installation of two 250kL tanks, connecting pipework and bases on an existing cleared area (former stack site) on the road reserve at the strategic intersection of the Henty Highway and Jallumba-Mockinya Rd.

Local CFA Brigades identified the need for large volumes of water for firefighting near the perimeter of the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline, in the farmland areas close to the Black Range State Forest and Grampians National Park.

The extended drought of 1997-2010 proved that dams cannot be relied on. Experience from previous fires in this area showed that power supply failure and melting of pipes and tanks can make the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline not reliable.

Tanks with a capacity of 500kL will provide a strategic water source in a high risk area located between two major tracts of public land.

This project is required as it has the potential to save valueable food, wool and farming resources as well as the lives of volunteer firefighters, their families and their livelihoods. Most of the volunteer firefighters that work around the clock to protect everyone else's properties also own property in the region. The time and potential resources that this project could save are well worth it.

This project will provide valuable water and a reliable source of water to fire fighters and for aerial fire fighting when needed most to preserve life and property of our Community. Desperately needed and long overdue.

Not only will this project save valuable property, national park land and possibly lives as well as volunteer fire fighter time, it is most economical, reliable and just plain commonsense.
