At present the Yarram railtrail goes from Yarram to Alberton. It is due to be extended to Port Albert this year and then to Welshpool in 2019. This would then connect the Great Southern Rail trail all the way from Leongatha through to Yarram.
We would like to create a community bike hire and repair social enterprise that would serve as a learning experience for local students and our local Men's Shed. Currently the Men's Shed only works with wood, this would give them the opportunity to expand the current facility to diversify and attract new members.

Mike's Bikes for Yarram would provide a physical, social & economic link for the Great Southern Rail Trail and the Yarram community.
The local community would benefit from an additional community-led social enterprise.
The local Men's Shed would benefit from expanded resources and social mentoring inclusion.
We would also offer work placements and experience to the local high school in the form of business management, tourism, marketing, operations and the bike repairs. This would be a partnership between young and old.
This enterprise will help attract tourists to the area by offering a service to holiday visitors.

This project would provide a viable tourist attraction, considering that the old railway easement is currently underutilised by cyclists and/or walkers. It would also attract much needed visitor spending for Yarram's traders and services, and also accommodation facilities.

Great idea for both tourists and locals alike - particularly between Yarram and Port Albert.. I think it is a great idea and would encourage and promote a physical pass time without the need to provide and maintain your own bike.
