In 2016 the Merrijig Public Hall received a grant from the Department of Premiers and Cabinet of $9,500. With this a remembrance pathway with commemorative stones was created within the Merrijig war and service memorial park. This project improved the accessibility to the park, has enhanced the visitor experience and has encouraged more attendees.
The addition of a shelter within the park will provide visitors protection from the elements while attending services. In 2017 the Mansfield Council approved a grant application for $3,520 for the project.

The Merrijig Public Hall subcommittee planned to upgrade the old war memorial located on Mt Buller Tourist Road, opposite Buttercup Road in Merrijig.

Supported by five grants over five years, three stages have been upgraded at the park.
Stage four is the proposed shelter on the lower level of the park. The shelter is expected to encourage visitors to attend services with better access to the park.

This shelter, will assist more community gatherings in the park and it will be an even greater asset for the community and future generations.

The all weather shelter will provide a place of respite during weather extremes. We encourage attendees, both local and visiting services held, to remember and respect local servicemen and women and spend a greater amount of time at the memorial to fully embrace its meaning and significance.

Facility will complement the extensive works that have been carried out by volunteers to date. Memorial services are attended by over 200 residents and students.

A really worthwhile project that will not only commemorate those who served in all wars, but also be a reflective place for all.
