The only community infrastructure in the village of Merricks Beach are two concrete tennis courts. The courts are available to all to use, free of charge. They consist of four concrete slabs. The last time that any major work was done on them was 1968. The playing surface of the courts has now deteriorated to the point where the steel reinforcing is becoming visible, there are significant cracks, and the surface itself can be slippery and dangerous. Also, the fence is in poor condition. Sections of some posts have corroded away. The court surfaces and the fence desperately need replacement.
The courts at Merricks Beach are used by all ages within the community, exclusively for casual and social recreation. They are particularly popular with children learning to play with their parents. If the court playing surface and the fence are not replaced, they will soon become unusable due to safety concerns. The community would then lose its only public recreational facility. If replaced, the courts could also be used for other recreational activities such as basketball. This project is needed so that this important community asset can be preserved and maintained for future generations.

These courts are in desperate need of a new surface. Need to be made safe as they will always be an important outlet for sport in our community..
Wonderful community amenity for all to use. Would really benefit from resurfacing
Great idea! The courts are a major community resource, but have been getting increasingly irregular in recent years. Would be marvellous to have them resurfaced.
Thanks for all the support and helpful comments - please encourage everyone you know in the area to vote for our tennis court renovation project (and also for the Somers Yacht Club lifts). - The MBRA Committee
What a great community facility. Keep it safe for everyone of all ages to use by resurfacing.
great community hub - but keep them as tennis courts ie not basketball
The courts one of the community focal points and deserve some attention to make them safe for the community.
This project would be very benifical.
Tennis is such a big part of the Peninsula lifestyle and this project would help a lot of people.
My kids have loved this court and the family events associated with the courts, and now my grandchildren are starting to use this community court. Very happy to support the upgrade!
A great facility for all
A great community asset desperately in need of an upgrade
A popular facility in the area needing an urgent upgrade so that it can continue to be used by our children and grandchildren.
yes, and a basketball ring would be welcome too Brianstagoll
Very important for the community. Used a lot over summer and very much in need of a revamp.
An important project for the community
Long neglected but much loved facility. Warrants some TLC and an upgrade.
A very important project for the local community
Families playing tennis in Merricks Beach is a tradition that should continue for another century. A vital hub that encourages physical activity, for all ages.
A popular facility, used by all age groups and contributing not just to their health but also as a community meeting point for all residents.
An overdue renovation for a well used space in our community.
A very necessary community project
We wholeheartedly support the project. The old courts are well used and definitely in need of an upgrade
