The retreat will be held at a Geelong seaside venue for 1-3 nights, for 18-30 year olds with Type 1 Diabetes. We hope to provide help to 10-20 people. This 'transition age' from childhood to adulthood has little to no support, yet is the highest risk time for mental illness and suicide for people with Type 1.

Type 1 cooking classes, exercise, latest technologies, yoga and art groups will provide real connection and skills away from social media. Mental illness and Type 1 Diabetes are both highly stigmatised and isolating. We will receive help from Diabetes, and Mental Health Professionals.

Geelong has approximately 1500 people living with Type 1 Diabetes. Half of those people are living with mental illness with no community support or acknowledgement. This is double the national average of those with mental illness. We will particularly reach out to those in lower socioeconomic circumstances, who are less likely to have access to support. There is no other project like this for 18-30yr olds, but an overwhelming need in the Type 1 community.

Our 'Retreat' will provide real life skills and connection. This will allow those with Type 1 to improve their overall wellbeing and live healthier lives.

A much needed area of support for teens and young adults living with Type 1 through a high risk time in their lives!

So vital that teens with chronic medical illness like type 1 diabetes get the opportunity to socialise and feel normal amongst their peers.
