This will be the first Men's Shed in a Victorian hospital offering men visiting the Parkville Medical Precinct an opportunity to meet other men undergoing or caring for someone with similar health experiences. The men's shed aims to reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing. We know that: - Over 215,000 patients visit the Parkville precinct each year. - 1 in 8 male chronic disease patients suffer depression - 1 in 5 will experience anxiety. - Men are less likely to seek help than women. Open to all visitors to work shoulder to shoulder on small projects and health education sessions.
The men's shed will be accessible to the local community to participate in health promotion activities and volunteering opportunities. With the goal of promoting the health of men and decreasing health disparities, specifically social isolation and poor mental health, this project aims to provide a safe space for men to come together and work in the men’s shed on projects ranging from:
• building small toys for younger patients
• walking groups around the Parkville precinct
• cooking lessons
• health information sessions i.e. family violence, sexual dysfunction post prostate cancer, sleep and fatigue, parenting through cancer.

Wonderful idea
Yes please
This would be wonderful !
This would be so fantastic, please everyone give this your vote, it could make such a difference for so many x
I am behind it! How can I help to make it happen?
Terrific initiative! Well established to support men with health issues elsewhere, and badly needed in somewhere like Parkville where we have so many men with health issues. My prostate cancer patients would particularly benefit from having a Mens Shed in Parkville.
I think it’s a fantastic idea
Congratulations Geri and good luck! This is a fantastic initiative that will support the improvement of mens’ health and wellbeing as they travel a difficult journey. An outstanding example of a community health-sector partnership! Well done!
Great idea
Fantastic idea - good luck
This could be great for me
Fantastic idea. This can help with stress and provide an outlet for those suffering. If mental health improves it could assist with the recovery process . Good luck !!!
Great project. Good luck!
I believe this project will bring a great deal of activity and wellness to those in need of something to fill in time.
Great project, great to see Parkville men’s shed working towards much needed support for mental heath and wellbeing. Bruce
Great initiative to promote men’s health and wellbeing and reduce isolation whilst receiving care themselves in Parkville or providing care to a loved one who requires it. Good luck Geri on bringing this great community initiative into the health sector. Kate
A wonderful project, wishing you all the very best for success!
Fantastic initiative....this really puts Victoria on the Global map for health care and liveability!
