Would you believe the image above is screenshot of Melbourne's Digital Twin?
This is an open-source inspired and community focused project that has set out to produce the world's best real-time 3D visualisation of a city. When aligned geospatially, it will transform how we experience Melbourne.
Four partner sites have been selected, each with a unique contribution to Melbourne's future:
- Queen Victoria Markets Renewal
- Collingwood Art's Precinct
- Melbourne Innovation District
- Fishermans Bend
Key strategic messages will be incorporated into dedicated activation's for each site. This will result in the most innovative digitisation of a smart city
A living, breathing time-capsule of each partner site will be created in unprecedented detail. This will continue to improve through time and made freely available. PHORIA will match grant funding in kind to maximise impact.
Any Victorian can access and incorporate this world-leading data set into their own operations. For example:
-Connect and align IoT sensor information with a real-time public facing dashboard.
-Interactive hoarding at construction sites to inform of site planning, disruptions and wayfinding information.
-Local events, artists and businesses can promote themselves hyper-locally
-Government can move beyond master-planning approach and instead position themselves as ecosystems activator.

A great idea and something that will need to happen in the next decade of digital opportunity... Does open source make it scalable for other parts of the city..?
