It’s time to take a great leap forward in helping Melbourne become known as the Most Accessible City in the World! How do we accomplish this?
Meet Melbourne City Accessibility Virtual Assistant (MCAVA). This friendly and knowledgeable AI will be Google Assistant’s Accessibility expert. Envision this interaction:
"Ok Google, Talk to Melbourne City". "Navigate me to the nearest empty Accessible parking bays"
It will pull up a map and directions to fulfil the request.
Offers_countless_possibilities_for_integration_with_other_services_and_organisations.

The disability community in Melbourne City should not have to navigate this city alone. They also want to feel independent. Melbourne City Accessibility Virtual Assistant is the solution to both.
If Melbourne utilises this technology as it is designed, not only will it positively affect the disability community, it will impact the community at large.
The sense of true community is the greatest benefit MCAVA will give to the Melbourne City. When everyone is included and thought about with care, it serves to raise the spirits and sense of oneness.

Such a great project - any way we can help the community with accessibility needs is something worth pursuing. Great job Mike!

My mobility issues suddenly became much worse recently and made me require the use of a wheelchair (something I don't normally need). With this came the sudden appreciation of the importance of smooth surfaces, footpaths, and accessible spoonbills at intersections and street corners. It would be great if the App could have a feature covering the gradients of footpaths, or warning users if the footpath has a steep 'camber' (ie the angle at which the path slopes). Many paths appear to be 'smooth' but when you take a closer inspection you realise actually no, they're not because of their surface, camber, existence of tree roots, and general condition (ie they are in need of maintenance) etc. Good luck with this worthwhile project! As a geographer, I vote for this project. It's definitely a useful project for Victorian communities especially the disability communities in Melbourne. I strongly believed that the app it combines location based services with AI integrated with all availability of spatial information structure from Victoria Government and Google to significantly meet popular navigation requests and special demands of disabled people who wish to travel by public transports in Melbourne easilier, safer and more independently. I strongly believed that this design app will provide significant supports for all local citizens and international people who live and travel in Melbourne. Saving time, reducing cost and more efficient are obvious benefits from this virtual assistant app. Cheers. Bang Tran

I like this - it could be expanded to include safe routing e.g. to avoid full sunlight on hot days by selecting shaded walking ways

This app will help a lot of people. Hopefully you consider the aspect of full carparks so the app can automatically direct users to available one. It will be hard as it requires access to each carpark system. But anyway, great app. All the best :)
