Melbourne's first food hub is creating a publicly accessible pavilion with solar panels, complimented by local and indigenous art, and edible landscaping, to welcome and encourage the community to use this re-imagined Council site.
The multi purpose all-weather pavilion will sit in the middle of the Food Hub, featuring a vertical garden and solar panels to demonstrate sustainability features to users. A community kitchen and vibrant urban agriculture beds will surround the structure.
This new town centre will be used by residents, schools and visitors attending markets, participating in food education workshops, and by community groups seeking to hold events.
By creating an accessible and inclusive multi-purpose space, we will make the Food Hub welcoming to all community members. They will enjoy the beauty and delicious flavours of fresh Victorian produce by bringing their learning, shopping and celebratory experiences together in this unique environment.
This facility will enable local residents to access markets comfortably across all seasons, providing annual access to fresh local produce. School groups and other learners will attend outdoor food education workshops, learning from the urban agriculture close by. Combined with the community kitchen, local charities and groups will be able to self cater for events/functions affordably.
