The Marine Biodiversity Centre creates a focal point as an applied research, education and conservation hub for local community members and visitors alike. The Centre will foster knowledge sharing of local marine environments and sustainability issues, empowering the community towards creating a better tomorrow. The Centre will spotlight Port Phillip Bay’s iconic and endangered Burrunan dolphin; highlight Victoria's unique marine biodiversity; incorporate interactive educational multi-media displays, including underwater footage and acoustic recordings; flora and fauna artifacts; current research; places of interest; and Indigenous history. The Centre will also enable community and school groups, direct interaction with Marine Mammal Foundation researchers

In an ever-changing world, there is growing interest in long-term sustainability, conservation and protection of our marine animals and their environment. Education and empowerment being the crucial component, there is an urgent need for a Marine Biodiversity Centre within the Port Phillip Catchment region. It will be an interactive and innovative centre for the community, schools and Universities to provide a direct link to current marine research, empowering education, collaboration, and recognise the indigenous history of the region. The Centre would be a visible acknowledgment of the commitment to conservation and protection of Victoria's amazing marine life and environment

Fantastic idea!
Provide a positive pathway for young people to learn and appreciate the bay and our marine life. Also promotes areas of interest in a sustainable marine and sea life. A need is to clean up our aussie coastline and bayside area as it is home to many precious species.
Also boosts tourism and local economy drawing business and visitors to the local village in Mentone.

Excellent initiative!! People, and in particular children and youths living in urban areas ought to be educated on the natural environment and habitats that surround them, including marine life. This is important to keep people connected to nature and wanting to protect it by way of understanding and appreciating it!

Brilliant idea and one that metro schools, community groups and conservationists have been requesting be supported i this region for many years. State government and south-east councils need to get on board to support this initiative
