To ensure a range of small and large communities had the opportunity to be part of Pick My Project, no more than 50 per cent of a regional partnership areas funding was awarded to one local government area (LGA). As a result this project was unsuccessful.

Nature-based playground, Logans Beach Whale Nursery, nestled behind sand dunes, east of original carpark. Playground entrance would feature site-specific educational resource, life-size, realistic sculpture of whale calf by local artist. Accessible to all ages at any time, designed to encouraging parents to play with their children. To include amphitheatre, water play area, wet and dry sandpits, slides, swings, balance-beams and monkey-bars of various sizes and climbing frames; one a large log frame, loosely representing a mother whale in shape and size. Indigenous Bush-tucker plantings and equipment would echo surrounding environment, blending in and keeping within councils overlay for the area.

Provide a much-needed playground to the East of Hopkins River. Logans Beach is near residential areas, would also be used by the greater community and visitors, particularly in Whale Season, when many hundred of people visit the Viewing Platform each day. Having an all ages playground that was protected from the prevailing winds would mean whale watchers would be more likely to stay longer, making it a hotspot for gatherings and connections to be formed along with a greater chance of people spotting a whale the longer they stayed.
Research indicates nature-based playgrounds can positively influence children’s behaviour and development.

Great to hear about this project and certainly supporting it. It's about time there was a playground out on that side of the river and it will no doubt be well utilised by many positioned next to the Logans Beach Whale Watching.

Thanks Stones, we agree there is no playground on the East side of Hopkins river for residence or others to enjoy.

This would be brilliant, it would open up the East side of town for more to enjoy and with the new estates out Hopkins Pt Rd, a perfect natural place for all to enjoy.

Thank you for your support, just what we thought too, so many people visit the whale viewing platform, many just to watch the waves and surfers or of course to see if they can spot a whale in the season, it would be great to have a playground that encouraged families to play with their children or indeed organise to have a picnic there.
