Anglesea community has limited local means to provide residents and tourists (including non-English speaking) with detailed information during emergencies/incidents/events.

Currently the public access State-level warnings via emergency services websites, VicEmergency App and ABC radio; but a method for getting detailed, localised information to residents/visitors at the coalface of an emergency remains a challenge.

A Local Township Speaker System will communicate real time, audible/spoken, multilingual information to those being directly impacted by emergencies/incidents/events; likely more meaningful than the simple siren traditionally used in some towns.

The Anglesea fire brigade will operate the system by providing pre-recorded key messages before/during/after emergencies/incidents/events.

This project will deliver:

- Messaging in different languages to help tap into visitors who often miss out on emergency/incident/event information

- Tailored local information providing guidance, support, comfort

- Means to keep residents/visitors informed; encouraging calm and assisting people to take well-informed action, reducing the chaos that can occur during emergencies/incidents.

- Testing of the system (generally monthly). Test messages can be used to promote local events.

Our vision is a local township speaker system with audible, multilingual messaging through speakers installed/maintained at a selection of strategic locations; that is a routine and trusted information source during emergencies/incident/events.
