Courthouse Youth Arts, Geelong was once well known as a safe and inclusive all-ages live music venue for young people aged 12 to 26 years old and we want to restore it to its heyday with an eclectic program of live music, outreach and rehearsal programs spanning the full gamut of music taste.

From offering free rehearsal space to bi-monthly jazz, monthly heavy metal gigs, acoustic, rap and experimental programs- we want Courthouse Youth Arts to be a landmark place to experiment, play and perform. We will also ignite the 'lost' spaces in the building with more eccentric sound installations.

Geelong is full of latently talented young musicians and artists but the number of live music venues where they can gather are few. Opportunities for young people to perform are particularly limited given that they cannot play or participate in 18+ venues.

Young people walk in tribes; they want to identify with one another based on their unique tastes and music plays an integral role in self-identity and social inclusion. Vibrant live music is a powerful and positive contribution to the economy and our community. By offering a safe, inclusive space where young people can collaborate we strengthen those bonds.

So what exactly does it fund? Is there any particular reason Courthouse can't be used in this way right now?

Hi Zac- absolutely no reason at all! Which is why we need the funds to make it happen. We have an amazing space for young musicians to perform but no funds to get them on the stage and entice audiences to see them and that’s what this project is all about.
