Workshops provide opportunity for young people to develop skills and confidence in their literacy and creative abilities. By demystifying the writing process in a fun and supportive environment, young people are afforded the chance to develop an understanding of the importance of sharing their story. Young people aged 8-18 from the local Frankston area will be able to attend workshops outside of school hours and through school holiday programs, and local schools will be able to facilitate long-term writing projects and incursions.
By delivering these workshops at no cost, young people in the local area are able to seek the assistance and support with their writing that they otherwise may not be able to afford. As such, these young people's improved literacy skills and confidence in their ability will translate to improved engagement and retention in school and, by extension, improve student outcomes and youth contribution to the local community.
