Big Group Hug works with local communities to respond to the immediate material needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families. Donated items need to be checked, sorted and then distributed directly to families through Maternal and Child Health Workers and other community welfare agencies.
Big Group Hug would develop and set up a Work Space for safety checking, repairing and cleaning prams, cots, high chairs etc to be donated to families in the community in need of support. This Work Space would need tools, equipment for repairing and storage.
This project will address the needs of vulnerable families in the community by its provision of safety checking procedures and the reconditioning of equipment (capsules, car seats and prams) for reliable and safe mobility.
It will provide an avenue for recycling and promoting sustainability by re using donated items.
Additionally this project will develop the skill set of current BGH volunteers, It will have the potential to engage other members of the community in working and gaining transferable skills in a worthwhile productive environment.
This model could be adopted by other charity organisations who recycle goods for community distribution.
