Our prized velodrome has deteriorated with an unsafe surface and surrounds that need to be repaired for racing and cycling events to be secured for the future.
The club wants to re-establish the Leongatha Cycling Carnival, which was a major community-run sporting event held annually from 1979 to 2007. This idea has the support of local business groups and service clubs, as well as the South Gippsland Shire Council.
An engineer's report indicates the velodrome can be repaired with epoxy concrete resurfacing techniques, followed by a plexipave coating. Lighting and seating also need to be upgraded.

We believe that an improved Leongatha velodrome will have many benefits. Resuming the cycling carnival will promote community connections and attract visitors to Leongatha. The possibilities for an associated cycling festival is also on our agenda, further improving the reputation of Leongatha as a sport friendly town, bringing business opportunities to the community and showcasing the South Gippsland region to visitors.
Year-round the velodrome, and sports ground within is open to the public and is regularly used by schools and several sporting groups as well as the cycling club. Accordingly, a better quality facility would be enjoyed by many.

Having been involved with the Velodrome from the first Cycling Carnival
This great Sporting Asset of Leongatha needs to be maintained and enhanced to again attract
the cycling talent that have visited Leongatha in the past
The Leongatha Cycling Club has produced talented riders that continue to add to the towns ability to produce
exceptional sportsmen and women.
The redevelopment would assist in the return of an annual cycling carnival that saw many Olympic riders participate in the past and add to the Towns tourist events.

Our velodrome is an important asset for our town. My father rode the velodrome a few times a week for many many years right into his late 80’s. The velodrome is also a great place for families to ride. To see the cycling carnival return would be great. It is an important and relevant asset.

The Leongatha Velodrome has huge potential. In its current state it's quiet unsafe with an uneven and bumpy surface creating an avoidable safety hazard for participants .
If Pick My Project where to invest into this sporting facility by funding the resurfacing of the velodrome and improvements to its surrounds it would be a huge benefit to the local region. It would not only provide a sporting facility that is up to current standards but also provide opportunities for the Leongatha Cycling Club to host bigger events attracting more participants bring with them more people to the local area.

This project could help leongatha and surrounds being reinvigorated with the rise of cycle tourism. With the high quality south gippsland rail trail on our doorstep thats already great, and only going to get better, and lovely rural roads ideal for recreational cyclists, we could be a favored location in the future. A cycling carnival would really showcase our region, promoting tourism and also prompting people relocating to our area.

This is a great facility for helping kids learn to ride and have some fun. It is in need of some repairs after 40 years. It is difficult to train our top juniors for national competition on this facility as some of the dips in the surface are pronounced when doing speeds of 60 to 70kph. Like most things it is easier to keep them to start from scratch so a little invested now will keep it going for many more years,

I'm a Warragul CC member and we have our own velodrome track but I'm all for Leongatha getting theirs fixed. More velodromes should equal more people cycling in Victoria.

This is an incredible opportunity to bring much needed life and events to this town which has suffered from poor commodity prices, a largely diminished workforce with the biggest local supporter and will a huge asset and drawcard for the community.
