Many parents don't feel fully prepared for the challenges of parenthood and need extra support. The Day-Stay service helps parents gain skills and confidence with parenting issues relating to unsettled babies, lactation and breast feeding, infant formula preparation and feeding, weaning, first foods and toddler meals, difficult toddler behaviour, communicating with children and, most importantly, the fun stuff…. play!
QECin partnerhsip with Latrobe City Childrens Services, will support up to five families with children under 5 can use the service at a time, one day per week, with opportunity for 1:1 consultations, groupwork and access to MCH services.

"Sleep deprivation and maternal exhaustion can contribute to mothers developing postnatal depression or anxiety, according to the Post and Antenatal Depression Association" (http://www.essentialbaby.com.au/baby/baby-sleep). Lack of sleep can have significant adverse effects on both parents and children.
The Latrobe Valley has not had a local day-stay service for several years. The closest service is at Koo-Wee-Rup, which is not accessible for many parents. This project will provide a local, easily accessed service, staffed by caring and skilled early parenting professionals. Helping parents address sleep and settling issues early can prevent larger problems later, requiring more intense and costly services.

I used the day stay program nearly 20 years ago and it was a wonderful day of learning about you baby and getting valuable information.

this program was wonderful for me when I was a young mum with four young boys... thanks so much to Jan (now retired) and all of the Maternal Child Health Nurses who are working tirelessly to help mums and babies each and every day. xo

This program is vital for supporting young and new parents to establish sustainable parenting practices in their local area. Travelling to other Victorian regions to access this excellent service is challenging at the best of times, but more so when parents are at their most vulnerable. New and young parents, need a local service to keep them engaged with their community networks and extended families, just when they need the most support.

This is such a valuable program that would greatly benefit the families of the Latrobe Valley! What a fantastic initiative to provide parents (especially first time and young parents) with a specialised program that provides such tremendous education and support to build vital parenting skills and confidence to allow parents to be the best they can be. Please support this initiative to ensure the best outcomes and brightest future for children and their families in the region.
