This project aims to increase community interaction through a series of events:
1) Three street parties with children's entertainment and free coffee. Following the www.playstreetsaustralia.com kit which has been successfully piloted in Kensington.
2) One garage sale day for the whole suburb (based on www.amsterdam.info/kingsday/market/), working work with www.garagesaletrail.com.au to optimise the event.
3) Three Community Listening experiences, see www.sidewalktalksf.com.
4) Six starter coffee meet-ups for older adults, which are intended to initiate ongoing catch-ups.
5) Three 8 week Tai Chi for older adults.
6) Two 12 week Boot Camps.
7) Bicycle tours for people with restricted physical ability https://cargocycles.com.au/triobike/triobike-taxi.
Kensington has a strong community with opportunities to engage, yet we know that there are still some people who feel lonely and are socially isolated. This project aims to encourage people on the fringes to get involved. We are bringing a variety of non-intensive activities directly to their street, to encourage social interaction and community inclusion. The series of events are easy to access and intended to initiate on-going events in future years with limited or no financial support. Furthermore, these events present an opportunity for Kensington Neighbourhood House to highlight the other community engagement activities available to local residents.
