Home or community - the kitchen is the heart of the home. With over 1,200 contacts a week and growth in users of the centre - primarily seniors and people living with a disability - our kitchen needs to change. We are looking to maximise the space, make the area safer and more accessible, especially our walk through areas. The project will entail moving the community kitchen to an area where people can sit and talk to one another - providing social opportunities and friendship by sharing of ideas, thoughts, life experiences and stories.

Two major priorities for the Bayside region is to improve community infrastructure that supports health and wellbeing and to ensure and improve social connectness and inclusion. Bayside will also see an increase in an ageing population including mobility and disability issues.
Relocating the kitchen at Sandybeach will open up walkways so they are clear, safe and rooms are accessible. The new kitchen will be redone as a welcoming space for the community to gather and connect.
With new improved facilities Sandybeach can expand their programs and services to the broader community confident that the space can safely accomodate extra numbers.

As the centre transitions into meeting the future needs of its community, this project is significant in allowing expansion and changes in the facility and will also enable the creation of a break out/collaboration space within the proposed area the kitchenette is to be located. The proposed space that will incorporate the kitchenette will allow an opportunity to create a flexible pedagogy to address learning opportunities currently not being fully met as well as further enhance future learning outcomes.
