In July 2016, Culgoa opened up free camping right next to the Kaneira Hotel which has been successful in getting travellers to stop and spend money in our local community. We would like to upgrade the camp ground with the addition of a toilet/shower/laundry, 6 x powered sites and drive through drive way to encourage more travellers to stay here.

This grant would be a huge boost for the Culgoa community because it would mean it would secure the town of Culgoa with enough passing trade so that the surrounding business can thrive and prosper for years to come. It would also encourage more travellers to stay here longer and spend more money in our local economy, and have a flow on effect for other communities as we get the occasional camper stay here for a few days and drive around visiting other towns.

Please keep these free camping spots, not all of us want the extras you pay for in a caravan park. Love these free camps and will support the hotel plus then by purchasing items with the money normally spent on camping fees. Hence more people in town get benefits

Camping at hotels is an innovative and growing idea that opens up smaller communities for tourism - communities that are sometimes away from the mainstream tourist routes. The result is that much needed tourist dollars can flow into these communities, dollars that can be spread within the communities. The proprietors of the Culgoa Hotel in particular have some great ideas matched with the enthusiasm to bring them to fruition. My wife and I recently stayed at the site adjacent to the hotel in our caravan and had dinner at the hotel. In addition we purchased other local products in the area. The grant sought by the owners will only improve the existing caravan and camping access therefore increasing the attraction for visitors to the township.

My parents and my older sisters all grew up in the area on farms.
Visited there today with my wife and older sister, 91, to show her how the town had changed. Although the hotel hours for a Sunday were 4pm opening they welcomed us in and even cooked lunch for us. Now that is what we call typical country hospitality.
Their idea is full of merit and deserves all the help that they can get to complete their project.

Camping at Pubs is great for the single traveller, meeting locals and spending money in the town to help the local community.

We have been traveling, in our MH, for 4 months of the year, for the past 19 years. If we stay in a Town, that is where we spend our money, and camping in the grounds of a Pub, is always great fun. Meet the locals, hear their stories, history of the town, have a meal and or a few drinks, good times. It beats camping in any rest area or other freedom camp.

Camping at pubs is a win/win situation for both community and traveller.
Times are changing; vans and motorhome ownership is booming, and pubs give an option for a safe, enjoyable place to stay where funds are injected into the community. Sitting in a comfortable pub, chatting to a local and dining on local produce. What could be better?
These publicans are enthusiastic supporters of their community and would utilise funds wisely

This upgrade would give Travellers a reason to stop over and stay for longer and at the same Time support our local Communities and towns.

With your Vote you would also be showing Government and local Council who would be taking a close look at all projects just how popular Free Camping is and could use the data as all projects including ours will be displaying how many votes they got after 17 September

I would love to see this great little country pub get this project approved. It would be a great tourist hotspot for travelers to and from Mildura and massive economical gain for this country town. The locals are always ready to lend a helping hand, as I have witnessed this first hand myself.

To have an amenities block on site would eliminate the need to cross the road and use the public facilities, this will be handing in the colder months for the elderly, young families and people with disabilities.

Having six powered sites will be great for people (single or families) without caravans or motor homes.

Having a drive through driveway, will be a great safety benefit. Traffic can be managed in a way that it could be one way, eliminating potential hazards and making the camping area safe for everyone.

What a great boost this would make to this little country town. Towns like Culgoa are dying all over Victoria and to see the effort the Kaneira Hotel is going too to attract campers to the town is awesome. An amenities block and the 6 powered sites would do the world of good for a little country town that deserves to survive and not become a ghost town.
