In conjunction with Kallista Historical Society and Kallista Corner Garden and Permaculture Centre a newly developed celebration garden is planned for Kallista Primary school to develop and host local community garden events and centenary celebrations in 2019. The proposed section of the school ground faces the Monbulk Road and is currently a barren, unused concrete space. The proposed garden will be developed in conjunction with the local permaculture nursery to create an edible garden with raised garden beds, integrated seating, teaching/learning spaces and a sustainable watering system. Additionally, an artist in residence project to enhance the external classroom walls.

KPS has been an integral feature of the Kallista community for 100yrs. Planning for the 100-year celebration in 2019 (and time capsule), have commenced in conjunction with Kallista Historical Society with past staff and students of the school - furthering social inclusion, improving social connection and well-being of current students and local residents. Construction of a garden/meeting place within the school grounds will facilitate community events and outdoor lessons including lyrebird forest walks, local indigenous plants and permaculture information sessions. Beautification of the school façade along Monbulk Rd, engaging local artists to connect KPS to the forest, enhancing the streetview.

Kallista Primary School has a solid history of environmental connection. This project would be an appropriate way of recognising and celebrating a century of commitment. The support would also go a long way in providing community space, accessible by all. KPS is an open, accessible school and an important part of the wider community.

Fantastic project that spans across the community and the generations and into the future. Very valuable and needed for a small often overlooked school in the forest
