Officer’s sporting and community groups need a larger social space at Officer Recreation Reserve, which they can use for events that help build connection, participation and engagement. Groups using the space include junior and senior sporting clubs (football, netball, tennis and cricket); and community groups, including the CWA, Progress Association, Scouts, Township Committee and local primary schools. The existing facility, built in the early 70’s and 80’s, is outdated and no longer large enough to accommodate a variety of group functions. Subsequently, events are either held elsewhere (at cost) or not at all (a loss in revenue to the community).
The new social space will increase sporting participation and community engagement in Officer. The larger facility will include a variety of event spaces, a modern kitchen with enhanced food preparation facilities, new accessible toilets to cater for the elderly and people with disabilities, plus much needed cover for the patrons who attend our winter sports. We have approached additional local community groups to support the project and invited them to be a part of the community using the facility—if it becomes a reality. These user groups are contributing just over $200,000 from their own funds to this project.

This building is vital for the sporting and community groups that use the Recreation Reserve. It is a building that is needed to assist all the community in having their own facilities in Officer.

Needs an upgrade to compare with other clubs in the area, I am a player at officer and we are playing on the second ground because the main ground isn’t up to scratch. Our change rooms we use are tiny and aren’t even close to the social rooms. Would love to see this build go ahead to boost up a growing club !

I was amazed that the club didn't have a suitable venue for the sports teams that all use the precinct with modern facilities. This is a must have for the club and will have many flow on effects for the community that will be able to use such a facilty.
