By weekly conduct of in and after school AFL themed sessions and the establishment of a round robin intra-school competition in 10 primary schools in the area over the whole year, the project will develop the interest, skills, and education of local students and club volunteers that will create a pathway into AFL community club participation that is sustainable beyond the funding period.

Once the program is operational, over 1262 hours of additional AFL/physical activity will be delivered into the Broadmeadows area per annum

Football participation rates through the greater Broadmeadows area have been decreasing markedly over the past decade: An alarmingly low penetration (Auskick & local club participation) rates in key local schools -the lowest numbers in Australia as verified by AFL research highlights the urgent need to build a pathway from our “captive audience” in the schools into community club participation. A program at both a community club and school level that increases physical activity levels will deliver great health and social benefits to students in the Broadmeadows region.
