Jazz after Dark music series presides over a soulful empire of jazz built on an infectious sense of humor and extended joy-infused improvisation.
Although entertaining for the public this series of Sunday performances has been designed as a New York Jazz club for musicians to meet, jam and socialise while enjoying great music. It gives young artist a place to hear seasoned performers play and discuss techniques and styles.
Our aim is to see the development of new artists under the inspirational mentoring and performance of old.
This is not a classroom setting, no theory, but live and unique.
J.A.D builds on the music history of The George in St Kilda through the Alex Theatre. The George was the launch pad of great Australian bands and our aim is to develop programs in music such as Jazz After Dark that will aid and develop artists through mentoring in a live performance environment.
The benefit;
- young musicians hearing great artists in a live setting.
- Mentoring of young artists.
- Musicians health and well-being, being able to support and talk within their community of artists.
- The public gets to see and enjoy musicians doing their thing live.

A wondeful way to keep alive the George as a community and music hub.
I've been to several of the After Dark sessions at the Alex - its such a good way to spend a Sunday evening!
I think this is a fantastic opportunity to make jazz accessible to people in the Bayside area & broadening what's available in the live music scene. Listening to these fantastic musicians is transcendent; its lovely to see people of all ages & backgrounds enjoying the wonderful music.
Great project, hope it wins !

I strongly support the Arts and this is a truly worthwhile cause.
Watching Alinta & The Jazz Emperors is an uplifting experience for all to behold, our two granddaughters were totally absorbed.
This musical opportunity should be accessible to the general public.
We brought our 3 kids to watch Alinta and the Jazz Emperors at the Alex Theatre’s After Dark concert. It was great to see the creative joy and synergy between the musicians. The free concerts make it possible for families to join in. We also brought young adult friends with us for their first experience of jazz and live entertainment. This project has an important role in promoting live music and making live entertainment accessible to all.
Have attended a couple of the recent Jazz after Dark sessions at the Alex Theatre - what wonderful nights, full of amazing music performed by wonderful musicians. The great atmosphere is infectious and it's wonderful to see all the musicians sharing the stage and encouraging each other - a great initiative.
Fully support providing a jazz forum in the wonderful George.
This is a great project that deserves our support. The Alex Theatre is a wonderful space in a heritage building. The project itself brings a fresh entertainment element to West St Kilda, and a chance to hear world class musicians and performers.

This is a worthy project that will expose people children from many walks of live to Jazz as a genre, and some of Melbourne's finest and up and coming musicians.
Melbourne enjoys an abundance of musical and songwriting talent, much of which is local to St Kilda. This project will provide a creative outlet as well as raising the profile of the local live music industry.
