Our project aims to develop an inclusive outdoor learning space that incorporates sensory engagement and is designed to encourage children of all abilities to play together.
The space will be split into several sections, each focussed on a different sense and will include a sensory touch wall with various tactiles, adventure play area, water elements and a 'cosy dome' — an escape space where children can go to feel calm.
It doesn't matter what ability, what gender, or what cultural background, you should come to this play area and find a space where you feel really comfortable.

The proposed play space will significantly benefit Cowes Primary School & Early Learning Centre which caters for over 800 students. Due to our seaside location the holiday population swells to over 80,000 and a number of visitors access our grounds. Therefore, the proposed play space would significantly benefit the broader community and become a destination for those looking to access the unique equipment and sensory spaces.
Until recently, making a space disability-friendly was mainly focused on physical access but our community encompasses a growing number of students with additional needs attributed to conditions like autism that impact their sensory profile.

Much needed, and an asset to our community.
We need more facilities like this in all our communities!

As well as benefiting all children, this project would be of particular benefit to those children with additional needs. The sensory nature of the facility would broaden their experiences.

Many children would benefit from this. Not only locals but the thousands of tourists that visi the area every year.
