Important Structural Repairs to a Key Koondrook Building.

The project will enable refurbishment and structural repairs to a key heritage building ensuring its long term viability. The refurbishment will enable restumping and stabilisation of the building, repairs to roof and spouting, realignment of windows and doors, repairs to walls and ceiling that have been impacted on by subsiding of building structure. A disability access ramp will be installed to provide safe passage to and from the building. The project will help to preserve local heritage and encourage greater access and awareness of historical records. Key activities will include exhibitions of local historical memorabilia and working space for volunteers.

The Historical Society is a key component of Koondrook's emerging historical precinct. The building improvements and refurbishment will cater for community volunteers and visitor activity that is evident from increased visitation to the recently developed Koondrook Wharf and supported by the iconic Arbuthnot Sawmill. The project will enable greater awareness of local history and provide opportunities for a diversified range of activities to be accommodated within the building. The enhancement of Koondrook's Heritage precinct will provide a greater mix of activities for the increasing number of visitors and aligns with the Gannawarra Council's tourism strategy.
