Imam Kadhim Mosque The Iraqi Community Centre Welcoming Shepparton Community

This project idea, (created and planned over the last three years after the success of the centre and mosque) is to attract a larger number of tourists and the local community to visit; in addition to visits from government and education department who’ve shown passion to learn more about Arabic and Islamic culture and traditions. The only thing that has been lacking at the centre is a historical entrance/front design, telling the story of Islamic art and Arabic heritage. The second phase of this project, in the future, would be a small museum enhancing the centre for visitors.

There are a lot of great benefits from this project: 1- The local community will get to know more about our art, traditions and culture. 2- New migrants will understand what community is, how it’s embodied in Australia. 3- Sharing our cultures, arts and traditions with the wider local community will reduce fear and worry, creating greater inclusion. 4- The addition of a tourist landmark to the city will attract more tourists from other cities and the chance to learn more about multiculturalism in Shepparton.
