Hug a Mug coffee club will invite community members from all walks of life to meet weekly at a local cafe for a chat, learn about each other, share skills and make friends. Sharing of skills and local knowledge will be fundamental to the group for example: a young mum with a hole in her childs jumper may learn about darning from the older lady and the man who recently retired may meet a member of the local Men's Shed thus expanding his networks. Building connections will boost the local business economy and create a vibrant, fun place to be.

Bringing people together to prevent loneliness and social isolation is becoming more important than ever. Koo Wee Rup is a small rural town which is experiencing new development. Lots of young families and single older adults come for affordable housing. Older people who have lived on farms come into town as they age and sometimes their partners die or are admitted to the local aged care leaving them alone. Building social support through supportive relationships protects and enables positive mental health. Being able to participate in your community strengthens social bonds and builds individual and community resilience.
