How to sew reusable shopping bags

Attwood House Community Centre will host multiple sewing classes to learn how to sew reusable shopping bags. We will have regular ongoing classes in-line with school terms, as well as pop up workshops to encourage as many participants as possible to come and learn how to sew reusable shopping bags. All materials will be supplied, so what you make is yours to keep and to use again and again.

This program will be open to the general public, at no cost and at various times to encourage as much participation as possible.

Supermarkets no longer supply single use plastic bags, the alternative is reusable bags. There are questions over the environmental benefits, and health and hygiene concerns with reusable bags.

Participants will make material bags out of a sturdy canvas, which is machine washable; meaning clean bags are more likely to continue to be reused, are more hygienic, and will also last longer, therefore benefiting the environment.

We will supply both the machinery (sewing machines and supplies), the patterns and lessons to learn how to sew reusable shopping bags. The only thing participants need to supply is their time and enthusiasm.
