So wonderful to see Ros share her empathy and first hand experience of the hospital environment with the patients at St Johns. Ros is a talented artist and knows how creativity can help to heal hearts.

St John of God Geelong Hospital is part of a not-for-profit health care group serving our community. An Arts & Health Program was piloted in 2017 to promote patient health, healing and recovery through engagement in creative activities. The program sought to enrich the hospital experience for patients, families, caregivers and visitors. Due to an overwhelming positive response from participants, we aim to expand our activities to offer weekly artist led workshops, a monthly artists-in-residence program and creative art packs for patients.
The pilot program showed how the arts can stimulate interests, enliven spirits and support quality of life. Emotional well-being is an important component in the management of physical health.
‘I was feeling down with heart surgery scheduled for the following day. I was encouraged to join in with the arts activities taking place, I was surprised how much it picked me up.’
Our project will offer employment and volunteering opportunities for local artists passionate about helping others. We will host community engagement activities involving schools and businesses, with artworks being exhibited within the hospital creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Wonderful work inspiring people to stay healthy
Excellent work Ros and the hard working volunteers. There should be more people and programs like this for the sick and vulnerable. All the best.
Thank you
Amazing work Ros! I have been recently in hospital and I now understand better how programs like this one can make such a difference into patients’ lives. Well done!
Wonderful work, good luck Ros
Best program ever ... it has made such a difference to the lives of so many of our patients. It is difficult to find words to describe the visible transformation that occurs when patients have the opportunity to participate in the arts and health program .
I see the happiness and joy this brings to patients young and old. Great work Ros and your team of volunteers
Hope this work grows, you’re an angel Ros!
Well done Ros - great project
Love the program, it is very relaxing and soothing. Ros is amazing.
Keep up the great work Ros. Your enthusiasm is fantastic.
I volunteer with this program and enjoy the feedback from patients, their family and friends and staff about the positive effects of art. Art is a wonderful way of assisting healing. I love the many discussions we have at the hospital and I enjoy sharing my skills to help make the hospital stay a better one.
I think this is such a great thing for patients, weather it's together with others or painting on their own, it sounds so therapeutic. We'll done Ros Pollard and team and volunteers. You're all amazing!
Fantastic, what a great initiative!!

Recently I was at one of these Art Sessions, and it was wonderful to see the patients be somewhere else other than "stuck" in their room. It was interesting to watch the patients walking past and then return to participate. They were able to socialise with other people as well as having a go at their art work. It's a fantastic idea and It would be good to see this continue as well as be available in other Hospitals etc
